I am currently an assistant professor at Iowa State University and Director of the North Central Regional Aquaculture Center, with interests in characterizing and addressing local, regional, and global challenges facing fisheries, freshwater ecosystems, and aquaculture. I previously served as research faculty in Cornell University’s Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, and I look forward to continuing my work with others associated with Adirondack fisheries.

My research spans both curiosity-driven (basic) and use-inspired (applied) investigations into fish and aquatic ecosystems, with particular focus on sustainable fisheries, freshwater ecosystems and aquaculture. I combine natural experiments, laboratory and mesocosm studies, and modeling to explore the patterns and processes that shape fisheries and aquatic ecosystem structure and function. Alongside this work, I am committed to training the next generation of aquatic environmentalists and enhancing public awareness of the fragility of fisheries and aquatic ecosystems.

I strongly believe in incorporating students in research and outreach events, here is a group of summer interns prepping for an event showcasing research on interactions between fisheries and environmental change.
